When
Louis Met Paul and Debbie finally hits our screens this Tuesday at 9pm
on BBC2. The Radio Times selected it as 'Today's Choice' and
MagicWeek are giving it a 'Under no circumstances miss it!' rating. Paul to
Louis "You're a very nice man... but you're interfering!"
Today's Telegraph Magazine has a fascinating four page spread on
the show, written by Louis Theroux, that offers a further insight into
Paul and Debbie's relationship and how Louis found himself interacting
with them. "What's that? I asked, pointing at a strange antique lamp
in a shape suggesting a ghost. 'It's called a standard lamp, son,' Paul
said." ....this
is going to be a good one!

It's been nearly three months since we reported the theft of Guy
Barrett's van complete with his illusion act. Some of the missing props
did turn up in a lay-by 100 miles away, but were in a dreadful state.
However Guy has been able to get his act back together and will be
performing in Germany at the Lubeck convention next month.

I
first mentioned the soundtrack to Gladiator (Amazon
Link) back in MagicWeek number 10 as it was such a stunning piece of
music, and ripe for an illusionist's wants. In the States it has just won a Golden
Globe for Best Original Score and in the UK has just been
nominated for a BAFTA, (July 25th). With an Oscar win
looming (March 25th) it will be interesting to see if this soundtrack
collects all three top awards.

A
number of Magic Societies have recently been added to the Magic
Societies links page, and the number of Magicians links is all set to
double shortly. We started out with 93 links and it's now up to 166. I've just finished designing a new site for busy
professional Martin Sanderson: sanderson-magic.com.
Magicweek advertisers Alakazam.co.uk will shortly be opening a 'Magic Room' for visitors - details soon.
Derren Brown will be seen on our screens again, in the summer, with an
all-new special from the same team that brought you the excellent Derren
Brown - Mind Control. As more and more women get into magic I thought
that you may be interested in this link to The
Ladies of Magic. I
expect to be up at the Blackpool Convention on the Sunday,
and maybe the Saturday, and will
be reporting on the Gala Show. Last week's Breaking The Magician's Code
on ITV was actually show 4 in the series, and passed unnoticed by the
British media. By the end of it all I almost felt sorry for Valentino as
he unmasked himself and delivered a dull, and ridiculous, explanation as to
why the shows were made in the first place. I think
I preferred him with the mask on. Let MagicWeek know whassup...
See you next week! Duncan.
