Monday Night Magic, produced since January 1995 by John Lenahan and Anthony Owen and still Britain's only resident magic and comedy show, is back. Held at the Upstairs at the Gatehouse Theatre, Highgate, North London the new season of weekly shows launches on Monday 8th October and runs through to Monday 10th December. Hosted by John Lenahan the ever-changing line-up of performers this season will include Danny Buckler, Pete Wardell, Marc Paul, Scott Penrose, Sean Meo, Nicholas Einhorn, Tim Clark, Richard Pinner, Alan Shaxon, Mandy Muden, Jon Allen, George Kovari and Company, Otis Canelonni, Alfonso Rios, Alistair Cook, Omid Djalili, Peter McCahon, Mark Shortland and Simon Bligh. The Medway Magic Society based in Rochester, Kent are holding a convention/day of magic on April 14th 2002. The day will feature top lecturers, a workshop on publicity and promotion from Patti Sinclair, magic dealers Alakazam, Bond Agency, Kaymar, and Magical Wonders with more to be announced. And if you want to know how to do a move or build a prop you'll be able to visit one of the 'help desks' either the 'Sleight Site' or the 'Crafty Corner.' Set in Rochester's historic High Street, and just 150 yards from the finest Norman keep in England and Rochester Cathedral. Make a note in your diary now, we'll bring you more details nearer the time (we've heard that the lecture venue is really excellent - this is all set to be a really good day of magic). 22.9.01

For the past (and for the next) two weeks TV Channel Nickelodeon have had a Sabrina The Teenage Witch day on Sundays. Before and after the breaks magician Nigel Mead appears in up to 12 spots of 45 seconds each performing magic. Nigel is a member and past president of the Medway Magic Society, and an all round nice guy (so we are told!). 22.9.01

 

The much-anticipated Harry Potter movie will première on November 16th at the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square. It is expected to attract a host of celebrities as well as the stars of the £85 million blockbuster, and will be followed by a glittering party. The film is expected to break all box office records. Daniel Radcliffe, aged 12, will play the young magician, appearing alongside John Cleese, Robbie Coltrane, Richard Griffiths, Fiona Shaw, Alan Rickman, Richard Harris, John Hurt, Rik Mayall and Julie Walters. Work on a sequel has already started. 22.9.01

 

Amy Evans’ Strike (the play that opened at the Edinburgh Festival this year with a 'magic' connection featured in MagicWeek some months ago) was nominated for the Fringe First Award. The Scotsman Fringe Firsts are the oldest established and most prestigious awards on the Fringe, and the play received some excellent reviews. 22.9.01

 

British film producer Matthew Vaughn is to wed magician David Copperfield's Ex Claudia Schiffer. The couple have been dating since November and currently share a flat in London's trendy Notting Hill. 22.9.01
