Number 76 - 8th December 2001
Top-rated children's magic
series The Quick Trick Show (CiTV/Objective Productions) has just
won a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and
Television Arts) for the "Best Children's Entertainment." This is the
first time that a magic show has ever won a BAFTA, so many congratulations
to Anthony Owen, Andrew O'Connor, Tony Nicholson, and
Stephen Mulhern on their success. Founded by Andrew O'Connor (a former
Young Magician of the Year and actor/game show host) and talent manager
Michael Vine in 1996 Objective Productions are the only UK independent to
specialise in magic productions. The Quick Trick Show is recording
a fifth series. 8.12.01 |

Every so often
magicians pop-up on ITV's You've Been Framed and last Sunday a
number of magicians were featured "mid-disaster." Here's a "top pro" who
managed to set himself on fire during a dodgy dove pan production! The pan
had been loaded with slow-burning sheets of flash paper that instantly
ignited, rose in the air, and then fluttered down landing everywhere.

Ron and Martin
MacMillan produced yet another highly successful convention last
weekend, finishing off with a gala show that put this year's Royal Variety
Show to shame. Compered quite brilliantly by Noel Britten highlights for
me were John Carney's "Mr Mysto" very funny, great character/routining.
The Morettis live cross-bow "William Tell" style - stunning! Derek Scott -
pure "street," very funny, excellent stuff. David & Dania - amazing
split-second quick-change timing. Juggler Daniel Hochsteiner - pure Vegas!
and Norbert Ferre - beautifully routined contemporary manipulation
• It looks like David Blaine will now be appearing on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on
Friday 14th, (originally scheduled for the 7th) but subject to change -
the BBC's own website isn't up to date on this one!
• See you next week, Duncan.
