Many
congratulations to Loki - the new Magic Circle Stage Magician of the
Year. Loki won the President's Trophy and a cheque for £1,000 on Sunday
night with an original act
that's not too easy to describe... "Burtonesque" perhaps? (as in Tim, not Lance). Loki's performance oozed energy and style, and
his dancing cane routine is really excellent. Second
place and a cheque for £500 went to Duncan Trillo. Third place and a
cheque for £250 to Alfonso Rios. Nine magicians (six professional) made it
through to the finals of this recently introduced biennial event,
initiated by Magic Circle president Michael Bailey. John Fisher, Geoffrey
Durham and Jan Kennedy judged. Michael Bailey, Chris Woodward and Brian
Miller formed the competition committee. The next Magic Circle competition
is The Close-up Magician of the Year, which takes place at the
HQ on Monday November 4th under the guidance of organiser Andrew Eborn.

Just
when you thought it was safe to go back into your living room...
Magic's Secret's Revealed is on satellite channel Bravo (aka "Boo") on Monday 21st
and 28th October at 10.30pm. It sounds to me like these shows will be a
re-hashed version of what went before...

Fans,
friends and family recall some of the magical moments in Tommy
Cooper's life on Radio Four on Thursday, 24th, at 11.30am. Once rejected by the BBC for his "poor diction and unpleasant
manner" Tommy Cooper went on to become one of the country's all-time
favourite entertainers.

Last
week David Penn, The British Champion Of Illusion, performed one of
the largest illusions ever staged by a British illusionist. During a two day
conference, hosted by Valtra Velmet, David caused the new T Series Tractor
to materialise on stage during the Managing Director's speech. David then
moved outside and made the whole range of Tractors appear on the front
lawn outside the conference venue! After two sell-out shows last year,
David returns to the Stables Theatre in Milton
Keynes for Christmas. He will be performing three shows on the 6th and 7th December and
tickets have just gone on sale. For more details visit:

The
O'Connell Basic Card to Wallet is reviewed this week by David Diamond,
"Let me first say that there is nothing basic about this wallet! It is a
deluxe hand made, gentleman's jacket sized wallet. Specifically designed
for the classic signed playing card to wallet effect. The word 'basic'
referrers to one of a series of wallets that Jerry O'Connell produces.
Others include a 'no palm' version of the above, a 'Card to sealed
envelope wallet,' or his ultimate 'Plus wallet', which combines all
features into one wallet!" The quality of Jerry's work is becoming
legendary! - To read the full review,

Young Magician Matt Edmondson has been selected as one of three
finalists to present a competition called "On the Spot" on Richard and
Judy and can be seen on the show next week (Channel 4, 5pm, Tuesday
22nd). Viewers will be phoning in to vote so Matt really needs your votes.
"The eventual presenter will be selected by the viewers vote - I'd really
appreciate it if you could ask everyone to tune in and vote for me" On
Wednesday Matt filmed his report which involved "dressing up like a woman
and seeing how men react to situations in which they should be
chivalrous." Not exactly magic but what the heck... good luck Matt!
