Paul
Daniels opened at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London's West End on
March 1st for a limited run of his one man show "The Magic of Max Malini."
Max Malini did not perform in large theatres, but rather in the drawing
rooms of the rich and famous in the early 1900's. His extraordinary magic
worked best in intimate surroundings and here Paul Daniels has recreated
many of his effects for this very unusual show. Ian Keable was in the

Black
Artefacts Crypt Clear-Out. With new stock for 2004 due to arrive any
day Black Hart and his staff have been busy exploring some of the darker
and dustier corners of their crypt at Black Hart Castle. They came across
an ancient leather bound box containing some exciting gothic treasures,
including rings, bracelets and neckwear, and many other "one off" items.

Duckie’s C’EST BARBICAN!
has just won the Laurence Olivier
Best Entertainment Award for 2004. The show featured magician Paul Kieve, this
time in front of the curtain. "The kitsch spectacular introduced the novel
concept of audiences picking and choosing their individual acts (which
ranged from vaudeville to ventriloquism via voyeurism) and having the

convention in Montrose from 30th April to 2nd May. Featuring a Civic
Welcome, an informal show, 3 competitions, lectures by Noel Britten,

a ladies event, and the Gala Show with Alan Maskell, Noel Britten, Paul
Dabek, Richard McDougall, Roy Davenport (photo), Quentin Reynolds and Van
Buren & Company. Weekend registration is £33 for members of affiliated
clubs and their partners, and £40 for non-members. There are also rates
for Saturday or Sunday only, and for juniors. There is an early

Larry Spencer Pro of the Year Award was awarded to Russ Stevens at the
recent Blackpool Convention on the Sunday afternoon. The award is designed
to recognise the work of a professional magician and is sponsored every
year by

have been invited to appear at the National Music Hall and Variety
Festival 2004 at The Playhouse Theatre, Weston-super-Mare on Saturday 1st
May. The festival, which runs from 27th April to the 2nd May, is arranged
by The Grand Order of Water Rats and The British Music Hall Society in
collaboration with North Somerset Council. Together with famous performers
including Joe Pasquale, Ken Dodd, Roy Hudd and Norman Wisdom, Safire have
been asked to perform their illusion act to close the Children's Variety
Show, which has been put together to encourage families and younger people
