Joshua
Jay lectures across the UK in April and May. One of magic’s most
eclectic and accomplished rising stars, has a purpose: to show people that
things aren’t always as they seem. “Good magic hides the trick,” Joshua
says. “Great magic reveals some sort of truth. It’s a form of
self-expression. I want my magic to be meaningful. I want people to find
more in it than deception. People should enjoy it, of course, but they
should also feel connected to others through it and to reconsider what
they think they know and the way they perceive things.” See

Mark
Leveridge presents his Pick and Mix Lecture/dem at 8pm on Wednesday
April 9th at ACES Magic Society, Thomas A Beckett Church Hall, Cliffe High
Street, Lewes, East Sussex.
"Mark has a unique concept in lecturing! Normally when one books a
lecturer, it is he who decides which items you are going to see. This is
fine if the selection of material happens to match the interests of the
club members, but clearly not so good if too many of the items fall
outside those areas of interest. Now, for the first time, Mark is offering
clubs the chance to see a lecture which contains effects which they
choose! We have chosen from a possible list of 20 varied routines, and
selected up to 8 that we would like him to perform and explain. The list
of effects comprises of 20 of his E-Routines, a set of tricks which have
been collected from his many books and lecture notes. Some of these have
been in lectures before, but many haven't. Virtually no specialist
apparatus is required for any of the routines." Visiting magicians

Magi
update. Mark Tait of MAT Systems Ltd emails: "I have had a huge amount
of interest in Magi since it was reviewed on MagicWeek and have had a
great deal of feedback; most has been very positive. The only negative
feedback has been around the pricing of the product, as it seems to be
beyond the reach of many magicians. When I formulated the price of £499 it
was based on the assumption that only a handful of magicians would be
interested in Magi. However, since the review on MagicWeek, I have had
over 200 magicians showing an interest in less than a week. As such, I
have decided to reduce the cost to £350, to make it more widely accessible
to the magic community. You can now download the free trial directly from
the website
www.matsystemsltd.co.uk/magi.html. Thank you to MagicWeek and all
those who've given us feedback." To read last week's

Southend
Sorcerers Society held their annual stage competition last Sunday -
and Richard Graham maintained his run by winning the competition for an
unprecedented 5th time in a row. Although this was one of the lowest
turnouts for some years with just 3 competitors, it was also one of the
closest yet, with just 5 marks (out of 150) separating all three
competitors. Richard, second from left, said, "It gets harder each year -
each of the acts tonight deserved to win."
