Number 485 - 10th October 2009
Han
Seol Hui, joint first prize winner in the Manipulation category at FISM
Beijing will be performing at The International Magic Convention in
London in November. His fast-paced and contemporary manipulations led to
a standing ovation in Beijing - it's a brilliant act! He'll be joining
fellow top prize winner Yo Kato in the Gala Show. So, a rare opportunity
to see two world-class award winners in the intimate
Mermaid Theatre, which will perfectly suit their styles of
performing. More magic convention newcomers this year are 'The Raymond
and Mr Timpkins Revue' who are stalwarts of the Comedy Club circuit in
the UK and will be appearing in the Friday Night Comedy Show. Using
music and props this duo raise the roof wherever they go. Miss them at
your peril! International Magic Convention, London, November 27th-29th.

5
copies of The Tommy Cooper Joke Book to be won! We have 5
hard-backed first editions of the newly published Tommy Cooper Joke Book
compiled by John Fisher to give away this week. 166 pages crammed full
of pure Cooper... hand written notes, photos, props, hundreds of lines,
gags, and more. 'My wife is a magician - yesterday she turned our car
into a tree.' To enter the draw simply email
MagicWeek
with 'Tommy Cooper' as your subject heading, together with your full
name, address, and post/zip code by 12 midnight on Wednesday 14th
October. 5 lucky winners will then be selected at random (their names
will appear next Saturday). This lucky draw is open to MagicWeek readers
worldwide. We were going to make it a competition, but in the end I
opted for a lucky draw instead to give everyone an equal chance in an
unequal world. (It's a fantastic book by the way, the hand written notes
really draw you in, and it makes a perfect accompaniment to John
Fisher's Tommy Cooper: Always Leave Them Laughing: The Definitive
Biography of a Comedy Legend which was published in 2006.) To order

Magic
Moments Day 2009, Saturday 3rd October. Hypnotist Matthew Stirling
created a magic moment, performing his hypnosis and mentalism show
‘Driving the Mind' to a sell-out 600 strong audience, in the process
raising £4500 for SPIRE (the spinal injuries unit at Stanmore hospital).
Richard Leigh produced a sell-out show for Momentum, raising £1469 for
children and families coping with cancer, and Jay Fortune raised £1200
for MSRC (Multiple Sclerosis Research Centre). Organiser Jay Fortune
says "we have big plans for the next Magic Moments Day, indeed for Magic
Moments in general and would love to hear from like-minded magicians who
would like to help create and stage fund raising events for good causes
in the future." Magic Moments is not a charity, but simply a
fund-raising venture created by a small, hard-working team of magicians
and performers. Email
magicmoments@live.co.uk for further information and to get involved.
The next Magic Moments Day is scheduled for Saturday 2nd October 2010.
