Burlesque
Paraphernalia and Side Degree Specialties and Costumes. Today,
DeMoulin Bros. & Co. is one of the largest suppliers of costumes for
marching bands in the US - but in 1930 the company produced an amazing
array of props and devices created specifically to be used in minor
'hazing' of candidates by various fraternal organisations. The great
1930 DeMoulin Bros. catalog of 1930, reprinted here, is truly a holy
grail for the prankster, armchair sadist and those interested in some of
the zanier historic arcana lurking behind America's neighbourhood
odd-fellows lodges. This is a reprint of an actual catalog from the
1930's that sold magic illusions, 'gag' type tricks, friendly torture
devices, and intricate costumes. Gary Groth (Editor), Charles Schneider
(Introduction), David Copperfield (Introduction). To pre-order from

The Classics of Magic.
"Peter Campbell-Wells brings his thoroughly unorthodox
presentation of Magic's greatest illusions to the Edinburgh Fringe in
2010. The show will feature cups, balls, rings, ropes... even a
family-friendly bullet catch... but definitely no bunnies!
Magicians worldwide spend years perfecting these classics. Pete didn't
have time to practice but what could possibly go wrong?
With a bag of goodies fresh from the magic shop, Pete will dazzle and
confound you with the greatest magic effects ever devised, while madly
hoping that his rushed preparation and general ineptitude don't ruin the
bullet catch.
This is a family show, for kids and grown-ups alike." 19th - 29th

Wild
at Heart, compiled by Kyle MacNeill. Kyle emails: "As you probably
know, very sadly, Rachel Colombini has contracted an infection, and now
needs $200,000 Heart Surgery. I had an idea to create an Ebook with
tricks from lots of magicians, and sell the Ebook, all the money going
to Aldo and Rachel, as they have given so much to magic. After posting
on various forums, I got a massive response, and I have now created the
Ebook. It has over 40 contributions, and is selling at
www.lybrary.com. All money from the Ebook goes to raising money for
Rachel Colombini's needed heart surgery." 12.6.10 |

Peter Campbell-Wells: Psychic?
"Description: Peter Campbell-Wells returns to the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe to blow big raspberries at the serious po-faced world of psychic
entertainment. Mind-reading and clairvoyance is absurd and Pete's show
revels in the daftness of it all. Classic feats of psychic prowess are
sent on idiotic tangents with Pete's irreverent spin and utter disregard
for tradition. Remote viewing, thought reading and fortune telling methods are crudely
exploited for the simple and vulgar aims of raising a giggle. He's equally happy to poke fun at the new
generation of evangelical sceptics, who seem bent of asserting their
righteousness while sapping the fun and mystery from anything remotely
odd. Just for them, he proudly wears the label of Psychic!" 16th - 29th

Merlins Magic Studio, Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
As part of an ongoing series of sessions, workshops and tutorials, Mark and Phil at Merlins invited Al Smith to the studio to
lecture recently. All tickets were sold for what Al calls 'The SOS Session'
which contained nothing
too difficult to master. This was borne out by the high interest level
of both guests and club members throughout the evening. The session featured tricks, subtleties, the odd mistake and more
information on cards than all thought existed. Card trickery is alive and
well in Yorkshire.
The next session at Merlins of Wakefield will be on Sunday 27th June and
is aimed at beginners/intermediate magicians who want to take their
magic that little bit further. Visit
www.merlinswakefield.co.uk for details, or contact them
on 01924 339933 or merlins@btconnect.com.
Places are limited and must be booked in advance. 12.6.10 |

recently, so here's a picture taken last weekend with my son Louis,

most evil man in the history of cinema... Lord Darth Vader (Dave Prowse).
Not even the magnificent Derren Brown can rival Darth Vader's mind control abilities
(or his use of the force!). DT. 12.6.10 |
