Additional Name Added to London Festival of
Magic. Noel Britten writes
"In the world of magic the word ‘genius’ is bandied around rather too freely in
my mind. Those of you who would like to experience the presence of someone
who truly deserves the title should make sure that they are in London on
November 18th. Lubor Fiedler will be making his first appearance in over 10
years, and joining the Creativity Seminar which forms part of the London’s
Festival of Magic (which is taking place all that week in the lead up to the
International Magic Convention). Creator of some of the most stunning visual and
original effects in magic, Lubor’s methods are often as entertaining as the
initial effect, and many which remain as baffling to you even when you perform
them! Often uncredited it was Lubor who invented, amongst many hundreds of other
of effects, the Coin thru Rubber, 4-D, Invisible Zone and Gozinta Boxes (Check
them out on YouTube!). Lubor will be joining Tom Stone and Mark Setteducati for
a whole day of performance, explanations, lectures and discussion and this will
be an unmissable day to witness and experience three of magic’s most creative
minds. I expect it to be a really fascinating day, and in these days of people
thinking that using red-backed cards instead of blue as some huge creative leap,
I urge people to come and be inspired into thinking in a more creative way in
terms of both what they do and how they do it. The evening sees the start of the
Convention with Harry Anderson’s first UK appearance and lecture, so even if you
are working at the weekend, this one day alone would be worth attending” Noel
Britten (talent coordinator of The Festival and Convention). Registration

Ian Rowland lecture,
Blackpool. Peter Eldin writes:
Ian Rowland will be lecturing at Blackpool Magicians’ Club on Tuesday 18th
October. Ian is a top mentalist who has performed all over the world. His
lecture at the Blackpool Convention this year was universally well received and
his spoon bending was amazing - even more so when he explained how he did it.
Ian has written the definitive book on the art of ‘cold reading’ and writes a
regular column for The Magic Circular and the Italian magazine Magia.
His show of amazing mind-reading, psychic-flavoured effects and intriguing
impossible events, peppered with plenty of laughs, receives critical acclaim
wherever he performs. In addition to performing in cabaret and private events
Ian is considerably busy in the corporate field as an entertainer, motivator and
teacher.
For a thought-provoking lecture with a difference Ian Rowland is your man."

10th
Symposium Payment Plan. Organiser Mark Leveridge writes: Good news for anyone looking to benefit from the
£10 Symposium registration discount for all seats booked before 31st October -
there's no need to pay immediately if you don't wish to as there is now a
booking option available which allows registrants to spread the cost of their
seat over three equal payment amounts. By simply providing payment card details,
an applicant will have his numbered seat confirmed straight away and the cost
will then be debited in three equal installments at the end of October, November
and December. This will hopefully be of interest to those who wanted to take
advantage of the discounted price but for whom cash flow might have been an
issue. For more details and to register for the event, which takes place at the
Redwood Hotel and Country Club, Bristol on Sunday 8th January 2012, go to

Bexley
Magic Society recently held another round of its Challenge Medal Competition.
The holder since last November has been Ed Hilsum who previously successfully
beat Roberto Forzoni. Now Ed’s title was in the sights of David Klass. Ed was
handicapped by the rules, not being able to use any effect that he had used in
previous competitions, whilst David could perform anything in each of the five
categories he could choose from. This time the tricks selected were mentalism,
close-up, card, children and rope items. A very entertaining and close run
competition ensued and this time David Klass (photo) came away with the
prestigious award. Who will be next to lay claim to the title? The result will
be reported here. Roy Marsh.

girl from the audience. Next it was time for Martin Daniels who entertained the
audience with comedy and magic. In the second half lots more magic with Debbie
and Paul, leading up to Paul's classic electric chairs before closing with his
