Mel Harvey congratulates Sooty and his new partner Richard Cadell on Sooty's sixty years in showbusiness. Mel's association with Sooty goes back to the early Seventies when as a young comic Mel worked for Thames Television as their "warm-up" man, including warm-up for The Sooty Show. Mel was seen by Sooty's originator Harry Corbett and asked to join the Sooty theatre tour with his magic and music act. Mel still remembers coming out of the stage door at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham to shouts of "there goes the singer" and looking around to see who they were talking about! Mel was booked for further tours with Sooty and then appeared on Sooty's TV show, this time in front of the cameras. Mel later appeared on the 1000th programme of the popular TV series "Rainbow" with Rod, Jane and Freddie and Matthew Corbett (Harry's son) and Sooty. When Matthew retired he asked Mel if he would present "Sooty's Magic Rocket Show" on a nationwide theatre tour (photo) which Mel did for the next eighteen months. Mel is looking forward to working with Sooty and Richard Cadell again in the Children's Show at The 76th annual IBM British Ring Convention in Great Yarmouth later this month, where he'll be recreating his magic and music act. Mel will also be seen in part of the "Britain's Best" opening show at the convention. 15.9.12
