International
Magic: Festival of Magic, November, London. From the organisers:
Following last year's inaugural success, International Magic is once
again running their Festival of Magic in the week leading up to the
Convention (November 12th-16th) at The Bridewell Theatre. As last year,
it gives attendees a chance to spend more quality time with some of the
overseas visiting stars of the Convention, along with top UK magicians,
in specially themed days; with the added bonus of the more days you book
the cheaper they get! This year the themes of the days are: Monday:
Directions, Showmanship and Development with Joanie Spina, Andy Nyman,
Richard McDougall and Morgan and West. Tuesday: Cards, Technique and
Routining with Woody Aragon, Michael Vincent, Will Houstoun and Vincent
Hedan. Wednesday: Mentalism with Joe Atmore, Chris Cox, Luke Jermay, Ian
Rowland, Vincent Hedan. Thursday: Perception and Deception with Richard
Wiseman (photo), Pete Lamont, Arthur Benjamin. Friday: Comedy Magic with
Stephen Bargatze, Rick Merrill, Neal Austin and Juan Tamariz. All the
days will follow roughly the same format of individual talks, lectures
or workshops by each artist and a panel Q&A with all of them at the end
of the day. Each individual day is £30 but book two for £50, three for
£65, four for £75 or all week for £80. Each evening there are additional
shows available for you to book separately. A chance between the
Festival seminars in the day, and the shows in the evening, followed by
the 3 day Convention to have a hedonistic week of magic of up to seven
incredible days. Registrations are available for both Festival days,
shows and the Convention at
www.internationalmagic.com With the full range of tickets and
deals listed there you can choose exactly what you want to see and
participate in, and make up a package to match your particular interests

which is then explained in its entirety and includes theory about the
structure of the various routines, some very bad English (thanks to the

the spelling routine that he performed at the recent Essential Magic

Mel Harvey congratulates Sooty and his new partner Richard Cadell on
Sooty's sixty years in showbusiness.
Mel's association with Sooty goes back to the early Seventies when as a
young comic Mel worked for Thames Television as their "warm-up" man,
including warm-up for The
Sooty Show. Mel was seen by Sooty's originator Harry Corbett and
asked to join the Sooty theatre tour with his
magic and music act. Mel still remembers coming out of the stage door at
the Theatre Royal, Nottingham to shouts of "there goes the singer"
and looking around to see who they were talking about!
Mel was booked for further tours with Sooty and then appeared on
Sooty's TV show, this time in front of the cameras.
Mel later appeared on the 1000th programme of the popular TV series
"Rainbow" with Rod, Jane and Freddie and Matthew Corbett (Harry's son)
and Sooty.
When Matthew retired he asked Mel if he would present "Sooty's Magic
Rocket Show" on a nationwide theatre tour (photo) which Mel did for
the next eighteen months.
Mel is looking forward to working with Sooty and Richard Cadell again in the
Children's Show at
The 76th annual IBM
British Ring Convention in Great Yarmouth
later this month, where he'll be recreating his magic and music act. Mel
will also be seen in part of the "Britain's Best" opening show at the
convention.
