No rest for the wicked. Derren Brown returns in 2013 with a brand new live show, which will embark on a nationwide UK tour from March 2013. The acknowledged master of psychological illusion, fresh from the hugely successful two-year run of his 2012 Oliver award-winning show Derren Brown: Svengali will once again mesmerise, shock and entertain the nation. Derren says: "I enjoy the stage shows more than anything else. Live on stage is the best place for what I do: it's unpredictable, and the audience knows there's no possibility of judicious editing." On stage as well as on TV Derren is in a class of his own, exhilarating audiences with his unique brand of entertainment. For the past twelve years he has created TV and stage performances that have stunned audiences, debunked the paranormal and encouraged many to improve and enhance their own mental abilities. His first show appeared in 2000, Derren Brown: Mind Control, and was followed with Trick of the Mind, Trick or Treat and a series of specials including the controversial Russian Roulette, the hugely popular Events, Hero at 30,000 Feet, Derren Brown: The Experiments, which won the 2012 BAFTA award for Best Entertainment Show, and, just seen, Apocalypse. Three new acts announced, The Session 2013. From the organisers: Three new acts announced for The Session 2013 (12th, 13th January, Cheltenham). Bill Abbott: Canada's Bill Abbott has burst onto the magic scene with an array of great products for the parlor performer. He's a full-time magician who thinks outside the box, and we're thrilled to present his full lecture at this year's convention. Quentin Reynolds: We have asked Ireland's Quentin Reynolds (photo) to join the lineup for this year's session. A knowledgeable magician and an accomplished performing mentalist, we have asked Quentin to perform a piece and talk about it in one of our "TED" style sessions. Luke Jermay: Luke's lecture two years ago (which featured three mind-reading effects with a pack of cards) was met with overwhelming praise and enthusiasm. We have invited this internationally recognized mentalist and thought leader back to our stage for a brand new presentation. They join Rune Klan, Jay Sankey, Dan & Dave Buck, Yoann Fontyn, John Archer, Simon Aronson, Tony Chang and four other performers (yet to be announced) at what is always a sellout convention. www.sessionconvention.com. 10.11.12

"Magic and hypnosis have been closely linked in the eyes of the public for over a century, yet the two are rarely performed together. By blending hypnotism with magic, Anthony Jacquin and the team have developed a devastatingly effective performance style that ranges from impromptu and prop free at one end of the scale, to stage and television performances at the other. In this unique lecture, you will learn what hypnosis is (and what it isn't), its practical uses and limitations, and how to make it work in a performance setting. We will discuss working details such as our patter, structure and success rates and we will demonstrate the routines we perform with close-up magic and mentalism." Guests £8 on the door. Vito Lupo will offer and define the "mime body" in a "magic-al show" and the power of magic-al effects in a mime performance. A unique workshop during which participants will explore and experience a creative exchange and the embodiment between corporeal mime and performance magic. During this "sleight-of-hands-On" workshop, participants will also exercise alternative pre-show preparations and improvisational free association with simple props, in a mashup of Theater, Movement, Mime, and Magic. Allen Tipton. Allen Tipton sadly passed away in his sleep on Thursday 8th November. Freddie Wilkinson writes: My closest and dearest friend Allen Tipton sadly passed away in his sleep on Thursday 8th November after a short battle with cancer. Allen was well known to many magicians for his valued help and advice, be it FISM and IBM winners or just average Joe's like myself. Allen had a long running article in "Abra" and in later years became a very active magic forum member and contributor. He was also a great performer staging his own tribute to "Dante" and entertained thousand of children as "Mr Tippy" When he wasn't performing or advising he was the driving force behind the "Nottingham Guild of Magicians" and was its President on numerous occasions. Outside of magic he was a well known ventriloquist, actor, director, producer and drama teacher, who could boast teaching the likes of Richard Beckinsale, Chris Gascoyne and many many more famous names. Most importantly he was a loving husband to his wife Barbara, and a loving owner of his little dog Pixie. I will miss him greatly. 10.11.12
