MagicMonday update. Andy Reay writes: The producers of MagicMonday are pleased to announce the final lineup of artists for their first show on Monday 28th April 2014. In addition to Alan Hudson, magic lovers will also welcome the astounding Fay Presto and the legendary slight-of-hand skills of Michael Vincent. All three are highly respected performers in their own right and set the bar for London's Weekly Magic Show. Currently appearing in the UK tour of Champions of Magic, Fay Presto is one of the finest magicians on the circuit. Her magic has been requested by royalty and celebrities the world over, with too many television appearances to list here. We are very excited that Fay has agreed to perform at MagicMonday. Michael Vincent embodies the teachings of the masters of magic. Performing classical sleight of hand magic and making it relevant for the 21st century, all delivered with style, panache and class. In a career that continues with a drive, passion and dedication, his stylish and sophisticated performances take sleight of hand magic to a new level. Tommy Cooper: Not Like That, Like This. "Tommy Cooper was a magician, a comedian, an entertainer and a celebrity adored by the public. But he was a troubled man who drank too much and slept too little, and who spent the last 17 years of his life loving both his wife Dove and his assistant Mary. Tommy was unable to live without either, and his shocking death from a heart attack in front of millions of television viewers in April 1984 meant that he never had to make that impossible choice." Marcus Bailey's Effectus: Improving Performance lecture is now taking bookings: "The Latin word effectus has many meanings, mainly: doing, execution, performance, effect, result. Marcus Bailey has been performing in one guise or another for 25 years and in the last seven years has become a teacher of The Performing Arts teaching in the F.E. Sector and Secondary Schools. During this time not only did magic take predominance in his life, but also the art of performing took a new turn in his search for better performance skills and he began looking into the Psychology of Performing, Practice. He feels that a lot of people in the entertainment industry need to be made aware of more strategies to improve ones performance in any discipline. For this lecture there are three areas which are covered which have been collated through research and experience to form a set of notes for people to peruse. The three areas are: The Zone, Practice, and Audience. Although there are no magic effects to be taught, there are ideas on how to improve performance, plus the opportunity for peer feedback on ‘Performance’ only, from anyone wishing to participate." Testimonial: "I just felt I had to drop you a line to say how much I enjoyed your lecture on presentation. I could see that you had put a lot of time and effort into a really slick presentation, and boy did it pay off! I have been a professional magician for over twenty years and for me it was a reminder of the way to do it. All I can say is well done, and anyone who comes to see your lecture will go away a better performer." Steve Charrett AIMC. Tony Griffith is now booking his Reflections lecture for the 12 months ahead: "Most of the material is taken from his highly acclaimed Reflection series of books. They are commercial items he has used as a professional magician for the last 27 years. The lecture covers a wide selection of material and there is something for most tastes. Emphasis is upon subtlety, routining and entertainment. This is an old fashioned type of lecture in which everything that is demonstrated is explained in full detail. It is not a finger flinging type lecture where the lecturer’s approach appears to be ‘ look how clever I am, but you can’t do any of it etc.’ Those watching will go away armed with all the information they need to perform the tricks seen. Tony Griffith has a considerable experience in education including the Headship of a Primary school and this is clearly seen when he presents his Magic of Science show for primary and secondary schools. He is a Member of The Inner Magic Circle, has lectured worldwide including many visits to The Magic Castle, Hollywood. He is a regular speaker/performer for organisations looking for ‘Speakers’ and has presented his magic for some of the country’s leading firms at trade show exhibitions and other corporate functions. All this experience and know how is brought to you in the Reflections Lecture" For more details visit www.tonygriffith.co.uk call 01275 835463 or email tony@tonygriffith.co.uk. 19.4.14

Bexley Magic Society Stage Competition: On the 16th April, Jason Deverell became the latest winner of the George Trophy for stage magic at the Bexley Magic Society. Compered by Terry Hebert, the audience saw performances from David Klass, Adrian Sels and Ron Wheatley then following the interval Jason Deverell, Roy Marsh and Steve White. Each act has to perform for a minimum of five minutes and a maximum of nine minutes or else face disqualification. The judges apparently had a difficult task in picking the eventual winner, as the top three acts were separated by only three points. Jason’s winning set included a burnt and restored banknote found inside a kiwifruit that had been held by the audience volunteer throughout Jason's performance. Congratulations to Jason and a big thank you to all the other contestants, for providing a great evening of entertainment. Roy Marsh. 19.4.14
