and also performing an escape that has never been performed in Europe
before, at the 'Magic at the Barn' event (above). The European first is
an escape from a straitjacket made out of chainmail (see photo) "like
something from Game of Thrones" is how one person described it.

Magicseen
Issue 57 - July 2014. From the publishers: "Apparently men don't
multi task, but I suspect that most of our male readers are quite
capable of topping up their tan while reading the latest issue of the
UK's only independent magazine! Sean Alexander, who keeps really busy
with his large touring shows, is on the cover, and he is joined inside
by top card men Dani DaOrtiz and John Carey. We prove that hindsight is
indeed a wonderful thing as we get 14 experienced performers to tell us
a few things that they wish they'd known when they first started magic,
and in a bid to help children's entertainers avoid some of the pitfalls
of the 'job', we offer solutions to seven commonly experienced kid show
problems. Deputy Editor Graham Hey offers another of his great comedy
pages, with a good visual gag and a raft of one liners from top comedy
people, and in Secret Agent, Jay Fortune talks to theatrical agent
legend Trevor George about his magic performing past. Jez Rose
contributes a thought provoking article on how we can manipulate our
audience's perception of us, while one of the Magicseen staff braves the
bad smells of his local phone box to spend 40p chatting to Ali Cook. The
issue also has 10 product reviews as well as live show reviews on Danny
Buckler and Jon Allen, the Masterclass has tricks to learn from John
Carey and Arun Bonerjee, and there are letters, news snippets and other
celebrity bits and more to keep you happy across the summer. Magicseen
issue 57 is available on subscription in printed copy or download
formats, or as individual issues, all from

Tommy Cooper: Not Like
That, Like This is being repeated on Sunday 13th July on ITV Encore:
"Drama telling the story of one of
Britain's best-loved comedians - a giant of a man with a delicate soul,
a man who was in love with two women and was unable to choose between
them. Tommy Cooper was a magician, a comedian, an entertainer and a
celebrity adored by the public. But he was a troubled man who drank too
much and slept too little, and who spent the last 17 years of his life
loving both his wife Dove and his assistant Mary. Tommy was unable to
live without either, and his shocking death from a heart attack in front
of millions of television viewers in April 1984 meant that he never had
to make that impossible choice." See

Going
Walkabout - a new eBook release from Mark Leveridge: "This is volume
1 in a planned collection of E-Books called The Professional Worker
Series which will aim to offer magicians all they need to know about
everything that matters in magic performance. The first part of this
series offers focused advice, tips and information on how to make a
success of working at mix and mingle functions where the spectators are
mainly standing and where there are few or no tables. This 28 page
E-Book cuts straight to the facts and presents solid advice that will
help beginners to get off on the right track, and will remind more
experienced performers of good practice which they may care to follow.
Professional advice like this is often hidden away in larger books, or
is couched in theory that can prevent clarity of message. The
Professional Worker Series will remove the padding, avoid the waffle,
and get straight to the information that is valuable to you. For more
information on Going Walkabout please go to

Virtual
romance becomes a terrifying obsession in Want You Dead...
"When Red Westwood meets handsome, charming and rich Bryce Laurent
through an online dating agency, there is an instant attraction. But as
their love blossoms, the truth about his past, and his dark side, begins
to emerge. Everything he has told Red about himself turns out to be a
tissue of lies, and her infatuation with him gradually turns to
terror..." Matt Wainwright writes: "Best selling author Peter James
approached me and asked if I could help him when he was writing he
latest release Want You Dead. The story is about a girl who has an
online dating experience, and when she dumps him, he turns into her
worst nightmare. Two of the caricatures are close up magicians, and I
helped Peter, advising him on that aspect of the storyline as well as
some of the fire-fighting which goes on due to the ex-boyfriend being a
pyromaniac! I even get to appear in the book as myself!" If you are
looking for a good read to take with you on holiday this summer then
this may well be it! See
