The South Tyneside International Magic Festival Convention 2015, which is being held at the Customs House, South Shields, will feature a range of workshops, performances and lectures by some of the finest magicians from around the world. The three-day event, organised by South Tyneside Council and magician John Archer, is open exclusively to professional performers and the most ardent magic fans and is strictly limited to 150 attendees. Those set to appear between Friday March 13th and Sunday March 15th include multi award-winning Satori (photo), comedy magician Paul Nardini and card expert John Carey, who promises that "attendees will leave with more than one idea to add to their repertoire." They will be joined by mentalist Luke Jermay, children’s entertainer Russ Brown, eccentric and theatrical performer Kieron Lefever, dynamic mind-reading duo, Atlas and Looch, card manipulator Gordon Bruce and multi-award winning Michael Finney. Science and Magic of Light, the Universe and Everything. March 28th 2015 10am - 5pm at Edinburgh University Eusa Debating Hall, Bristo Square, Edinburgh EH8 9AJ (Map). In recognition of the 2015 International Year of Light, why not join us in a free day-long warp speed tour of our luminous, multi coloured universe, suitable for ages 8 and up. This will be under the guidance of eminent scientists such as Professor Chris Lintott from the BBC's Sky at Night programme and Professor John C Brown, 10th Astronomer Royal for Scotland. These experts will describe and explain the wonders of light and how it interacts with matter, space time, gravity and black holes. Aerospace concepts from light sails to Star Wars will also be discussed. Assisting with the tour we have professional magicians including Kevin MacMahon, Director of the highly successful Edinburgh International Magic Festival. They will illuminate our way by using magic to demonstrate and help explain the science. The day event also includes a meteorite display, sunspot observing and parallel planetarium shows (small fee). Northern Magic Circle Convention updates. Robert Temple writes: Two more names have been added to the Northern Magic Circle Convention lineup. Elizabeth Rogan came 3rd in The Magic Circle’s Young Magician of the Year Competition back in 2013. Since then this confident teenager has appeared on BBC 1’s The One Show and performs regularly in shows across the country. Now you can see her fantastic act at the convention. Michael Diamond is a performer of bizarre magic (at its best) and has also been a professional children's entertainer for many years. Michael has 6 completely different 1 hour children's shows that can be performed anywhere, from your front room at home, to the largest holiday camp, theatre or outdoors. Michael will taking part in our Gala show as the infamous Doctor Diablo. The Anglian Magic Society are very proud to announce that Chris North has been made a life honorary member of the society. This is in recognition of his many years service to the society and the constant support Chris offers to the committee and our members. We are also delighted that Chris’s new act “The Victorian Conjuror” has been selling out in local theaters. Chris previewed this act at the society's December meeting with great reviews from our members and will be featuring part of this new act at the Blackpool Magic Convention in the after gala show party, on the Sunday evening. Young Magician of the Year 2015 Final. The Heats of the Young Magician of the Year 2015 were held on Sunday 15th February, and the Finalists are: Leah Devine, David Hardman, Chris Head, Dean Leavy, Callum McClure, Oliver Paice and Giorgio Rand. The Final will take place on Sunday 29th March and there will be two performances: the first at 3pm will act as a dress rehearsal with an audience and the actual (judged) Final will be at 6pm. Magicians at the Half Moon. Andy Clockwise writes: They're back! Friday 27th February sees the return of Bishop's Stortford's only monthly magic show, 'Magicians at the Half Moon' after a looooong Christmas break - and what a great first show of the year it will be. Martin Cox hosts, introducing Half Moon favourites Michael Vincent and Tim Shoesmith (both former winners of The Magic Circle's Close-Up Magician of The Year Competition).
