British Magical Society - Goodliffe
Memorial Lecture. Paul Cadley writes: On
Tuesday 22nd September the British Magical Society presents its
Goodliffe Memorial Lecture for 2015.
Three times President of the British Magical Society, Charles Goodliffe
Neale started his weekly magazine Abracadabra on 2nd February 1946;
it ran for over 63 years.
Each Autumn we celebrate the life of Goodliffe with a special lecture,
and this year we also jointly celebrate the life of a magician
that Goodliffe often described as his favourite: Alan Shaxon.
So we are particularly proud to present a lecture and presentation on
the magic of Alan Shaxon, Honorary Vice President of the British Magical
Society, President of The Magic Circle and unquestionably one of
Britain’s finest magicians.
The lecture will be presented by Steve Short and Scott Penrose.
Non-members are invited to attend for a modest £10 fee. 7.30pm at Selly Oak Ex Serviceman’s Club, Selly Oak,
Birmingham B29 7DL (Map) see
www.britishmagicalsociety.co.uk for details.

Mark
Leveridge at the Liverpool Mahatma Magic Circle. Mark was delighted
to have been invited to present his latest lecture, E-Club Pro - Live!,
to the members of the Merseyside club just over a week ago. President
Keith Wells (pictured) commented afterwards, "Thank you so much for
the whole manner you went about your planning, preparation and,
subsequently, presentation. Not only was what you delivered worthwhile
and accessible to all levels but there was lots of 'hidden' teaching to
be discerned for those who had the eyes to see, too. By that I mean the
attention to detail you so obviously pay to everything you do and your
unspoken insistence that ‘only the best is good enough'." With
E-Club Pro - Live!, Mark brings to the clubroom varied elements from his
online club website pages, and delivers a lecture that is full of ideas,
moves, routines and anecdotes, making for an entertaining and
instructive evening. Clubs wishing to book the lecture can get details
from
www.markleveridge.co.uk/lectures.php or call Mark on 01392 252000.

Gordon
Drayson: Kidology UK Children’s Entertainer of the Year. Filling a
theatre stage with a snowstorm this September was just one magic trick
which won South Croydon magician Gordon Drayson the trophy in the
Kidology UK Children’s Entertainer of the Year Competition held in
Wolverhampton on September 8th. Winning a trophy, and automatic entry to
the UK Children’s Entertainer of the Year competition to be held at the
Blackpool Magic Convention in February 2016, Gordon performed his act,
specially created for the event, to about 25 children and 100 children’s
entertainers. Votes were cast by the adults in the audience, so to be
voted best by his fellow entertainers is a great accolade.

Bexley
Magic Society held their annual Magic to Music competition for the Jack
Delvin Trophy on Wednesday 16th September. Three acts performed new
routines to music chosen at random and previously unheard by the
contestants. This year Angeline Mystique, Chris Ball and Jason Deverell
fought it out in front of an audience of fellow members, friends and
relatives, who each had a single vote. All the acts were well constructed
with content designed to reflect the music. The eventual winner
(pictured receiving the trophy from club President Chris Latham) was
Jason Deverell who performed (to a track by Bond) a series of effects
including endless productions of items from a purse too small to hold
them; finishing with a string of razor blades previously swallowed
along with some separate thread. Congratulations to Jason and
commiserations to the other contestants who helped make it a fun evening.
