South
Tyneside International Magic Festival 2017. News from Steve Gore,
the new magic talent booker for the South Tyneside International Magic
Festival:
It is with huge excitement that the South Tyneside International Magic
Festival can announce the first batch of Star lecturers and performers
at our convention next year. All these guys appeared in the documentary
'Our Magic' created and filmed by R. Paul Wilson, which will be shown at
the convention.
Rob Zabrecky From Los Angeles
As a magician there is simply no one like him. In live performances he
invents a magical World through a series of strange and beautiful
effects, which combines with remarkable timing and theatrical edifice.
He has become a prime attraction at the Magic Castle. There he has
received multiple award nominations by the Academy of Magical Arts.
Mahdi Gilbert from New York
A Canadian professional sleight of hand card magician, he has created
every technique he uses due to being born without hands and feet.
Because all instructional material on magic has been created for people
with hands Mahdi has had to invent techniques for every trick he
performs. Mahdi has appeared on Penn & Teller: Fool Us Season three
where his was successful in fooling Penn Jillette and Teller with a
version of the card effect 'Oil and Water'. He also contributed to the
research of the book The Greatest German Living by Ricky Jay about
Matthias Buchinger who was also born without hands or feet.
Asi Wind From New York
This NYC based Corporate Mentalist is one of magic's most influential
thinkers and performers. Magicians all over the world study and perform
his creations. Recently he was presented with the Merlin Award for the
most original show (previously given to Penn & Teller and David
Copperfield). Asi's recent off-Broadway show, “Concert of the Mind,”
completely sold out, extended its run, and received rave reviews and
critical acclaim. His new show " Do You Want To Change Your Mind?" is
due to premier in London on Nov 8th 2016.
Remember to pop the dates in your diary (17th -19th March 2017) or just
pay now by calling Ian on 0191 424 7823. Any general questions call
Karri on 0191 455 4031 or email
karri.prinn@southtyneside.gov.uk. Cost for the convention remains at
£65 and includes all 7 star lecturers, Q&A sessions, close-up gala, 2
amazing gala stage shows, 'Our Magic' movie, access to dealers and our
new 1 trick contest.

The
MagicWeek Video Archive.
This week Jeff McBride performing on 'The Hippodrome Show' in 1989.
Every so often a magician comes along and reinvents a particular genre
of magic. David Blaine did it for close-up, Derren Brown did it for
mentalism, and Jeff McBride did
it for silent magic, with this act that he started to develop in the
late '70s. Brilliant. Note: You may be redirected to watch it directly
on YouTube. This is so that the music's copyright owners receive

Black
Cat Magic: Magic & Mentalism props and supplies, for working Magicians &
Mentalists of the world. Black Cat Magic write: For a little while I
had been making my own gimmicked Sharpies for personal use, as well as
some envelopes and 21st Century Phantom cutouts. After a short I
realised that more and more magicians and mentalists were asking me how
they could get hold of some of these items. So, one morning in mid July
2016, I woke and decided that the best thing to do was to create a
website and host my items together in one place, as a source of
reference with an option to buy. I asked the Mrs what I could name such
a site and she immediately came up with Black Cat Magic... because we
own a black cat, called Alf for those who care. Within 30 minutes of
waking up I had decided to create an online shop, had a name and
purchased the domain name. It was an unusual start to a day, especially
as it had not crossed my mind previously. By late July 2016 the site was
live. It later transpired that there had previously been a magic shop
under the name of Black Cat Magic that was owned by Danny Hunt. So for
those who were wondering if it is one and the same I must point out that
we are completely different and it was coincidental. I have since
contacted Danny and he has been an absolute gent. As it stands to date,
we are continuing with our own range of home-made items and are
gradually adding a selection of items from other suppliers. Visit
