Derren Brown: Underground - nominated for an Olivier Award. 5 times nominated, Derren Brown has now had the most nominations and wins for one-person shows in the history of the Olivier Awards, starting in 2006: Something Wicked This Way Comes (2006 winner), Enigma (2010 nominated), Svengali (2012 winner), Infamous (2014 nominated), and now Derren Brown: Underground nominated in the 'Best Entertainment' category for 2018. Leamington & Warwick Magic Society Day of Magic. John Needham writes: The Leamington Day of Magic this year is on Wednesday 13th June at the  Cubbington Sports & Social Club, Windmill Hill, Cubbington, Leamington Spa CV32 7LN (Map). The main lectures have been booked and include: Kieron Johnson, Mark Shortland and Etienne Pradier. The day officially starts on the Tuesday evening (12th June) at 7pm, opening with a dealer dem from Saturn Magic at 8pm for local magicians or those that travel up the day before. Tickets are priced at £25 pre-paid or £30 on the door, which includes breakfast for early arrivals, lunch and weather permitting an evening BBQ. In the evening Mark Shortland will perform on stage and we also have the Midlands Champion of Champions Close-up Competition. A Magical Night of Family Fun. Magic fans of all ages will find themselves dazzled by tricks, jokes and a night of family fun at a special event this month. The Family Magic Extravaganza, on Thursday 15th March, will host some of the North East’s best children’s entertainers for an evening of family friendly performances, sponsored by Magicbox, Newcastle. The event forms part of the 15th annual South Tyneside International Magic Festival. The line-up for the family event includes Gary Dunn, a highly experienced children’s party entertainer with an act full of comedy and showmanship and compere Tony Junior, who is known for his sense of fun and light-hearted banter with the audience. Award winning magician, Graeme Shaw (photo) will also be performing and has organised the Family Magic Extravaganza as part of his role as director of the festival sponsor, Magicbox. “We look forward to the South Tyneside International Magic Festival every year as it’s such a big event on the magic community’s calendar and this year is looking like one of the best yet,” said Graeme. John Kimmons lecture - The Cotswold Magical Society. Peter Kidd writes: The Cotswold Magical Society welcomes back John Kimmons to lecture at the Hucclecote Community Centre on Wednesday 21st March. 'Kimmo' is a world-class family entertainer. In 2008 he was awarded the title of Children's Entertainer World Champion and became the first children's act to receive the prestigious Ken Dodd Award for Comedy at the Blackpool Magic Convention. Since then he has travelled the world as guest entertainer on some of the world's largest cruise ships, performed twice at the Magic Castle in Hollywood and made television appearances on CBBC's The Sorcerer's Apprentice and The Slammer.
