Ben
Earl London lecture and workshop/masterclass, Saturday 7th July. Ben
writes: I will be holding a free lecture and a workshop/masterclass at
the Hippodrome Casino London in the Almas Room (first floor), on the 7th
of July. Both the lecture and the workshop will feature many new ideas,
techniques and routines which I have never published or explained
before! All attendees must be over 18 and have ID as this is a Casino.
Lecture (free)
The 1.5hr lecture (free for anyone to attend) will begin at 12noon. The
lecture will feature all kinds of card magic, coin magic and psychology;
including impossible card locations and some devious 'think a card'
material which I have kept for myself for many years. I will also be
giving some of my insights into some hidden secrets within Erdnase.
Email benjaminearl9@gmail.com
to reserve your place.
Workshop/Masterclass (£100 - now only 3 places left)
A 3hr workshop/masterclass will begin at 2pm (this is £100 per
attendee), which you can book now. Email
benjaminearl9@gmail.com for
payment details. The workshop will feature brand new ways to approach
the subject of card control, palming, switches, and how to drastically
improve the deceptiveness of ones magic technique. I will also be
covering aspects of my Neo-movement system and detailed ways to develop
better timing and flow with cards and coins. Here are a few of the
things we will cover:
• Produce any named four of a kind from a shuffled deck!
(New)
• A devious card in pocket routine with two freely named playing cards.
(New)
• Read a person's mind in the most believable way imaginable.
• A truly impossible card location... which happens under test
conditions. (New)
• Coin vanishes which look like trick photography... yet are
angle-proof!
• New ways to make all palming more deceptive and risk free! (New)
• New philosophical and technical approaches to card control (New)
• And much more!
Free refreshments will be made available in the break between the
lecture and the workshop... there will also be an evening meal taking
place afterwards (which everyone is welcome to attend in order to
continue discussing elements of the day). See you there! Ben.

Spellbound,
Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Do you believe in magic? Even if you
don’t, you probably ‘think magically’ sometimes. We touch wood to stop
bad things happening, or take a lucky object to a job interview or exam
in an irrational attempt to influence the outcome.
This is the first exhibition to examine how magical thinking has been
practised over the centuries. With exquisitely engraved rings to bind a
lover, enchanted animal hearts pierced with nails, mummified cats
concealed in walls and many other intriguing objects, this exhibition
shows that the need to use magic is driven by our strongest emotions:
the need to be loved, our fear of evil and the desire to protect our
homes. While belief in magic and rituals can be comforting, it has also
led to the persecution of women as witches. This exhibition examines
both the idea of the witch and the reality of how women were accused of
witchcraft.
Even today, our tendency to think magically has not changed as much as
we might think. To illuminate the links between past and present,
contemporary artists have created new works inspired by the exhibition’s
themes. 31st August 2018 - 6th January 2019. Ashmolean Museum, Beaumont
Street, Oxford OX1 2PH (Map).
