Ava Beaux
on Talking Tricks.
Kane & Abel write:
On Talking Tricks this week, we are joined by magician Ava Beaux.
Ava discusses being one of the house magicians at the UK's top magic
venue Smoke & Mirrors in Bristol and her time at its former sister venue
Illusions.
She also tells us why there aren't more female magicians; why she likes
her audience to be a little bit creeped out during her performances; her
inspirations; why the general public are welcoming of women in magic, but
the magic community needs to be better, and much more.

Ariel
Frailich's Sub Rosa is reviewed by Quentin Reynolds this week. "If you are familiar with any Ariel
Frailich’s published work you will know that his main focus is on presentation.
His book Card Stories being a perfect example.
He sees beyond moves and sleights as he explores the possibilities of the
routines that can bring those hidden techniques to life and engage an audience.
Although his sleight-of-hand skills are considerable, here in Sub Rosa, he takes
a simple technique known by most magicians - even though no one seems to know
what it is called and hardly anyone does it - explores it in detail before
teaching how it can be used in many different performing situations..." To read

Steve
Gore Ramblings from a Suspender … of Disbelief! Lecture now booking.
Steve Gore presents his lecture which has received excellent reviews at
the IBM British Ring Convention, The Magic Circle and The Magic Castle.
It includes lots of his original effects, including ‘Trick Photography’,
which MagicWeek called 'Close-up Trick of the Year' and 'Visions from
Vegas', which is an ingenious mentalism effect which is a new method in
magic. It's not all close-up though, there are effects for stage,
stand-up and kids too, so there’s something for everyone. The majority
of his effects are also easy to master, allowing you to focus on the
presentation. "I thoroughly enjoyed your lecture last night, one of
my colleagues and I just kept looking at each other at the end of each
effect wondering 'whatever next'. I don't think I've seen/met a magician
with such an interesting array of effects and variations on originals at
the Guild before. You have a very creative mind, well done my friend!
Overall it was one of the best lectures I have seen at the Guild and I
joined in 1989!" John Scott, Nottingham Guild of Magicians. For more
information about the lecture, and booking contact details see the
MagicWeek Lecturers page.

Scott
Creasey 'Minimalistic, Metaphysical, Mentalism' lecture, Derby Magic
Circle. Paul Sharp writes:
On Wednesday, 27th February, Scott Creasey will be presenting his new
'Minimalistic, Metaphysical, Mentalism'
lecture.
Volume one of Scott's book 'Minimalistic, Metaphysical Mentalism'
was released in May 2018 and consisted of 362 pages, 20 essays, insights
and observations, a link to a free downloadable video demonstrating
multiple utility moves, 46 photographic descriptions covering 30 full
mentalism routines worked from your pockets using nothing more than a
stack of double blank cards and a pen. Scott said: "I was overwhelmed with the
reaction the book received from the worldwide mentalism fraternity
because the routines and performance philosophies I shared are very
personal to me and I wasn’t sure if my ramblings and the things I like
to perform would make sense, or appeal to anybody else. It seems,
judging by the reviews however, I was wrong, and it was pointed out to
me by close mentalism friends, that many of the routines I use which
have a, let’s say less psychic approach, are very commercial and would
probably appeal to both mentalists and magicians. With that in mind I
have taken a number of what I consider the most, audience friendly,
commercial and easy to perform routines from MMM volume one and two and
put them together to create this lecture, one that I hope everybody,
regardless of performance style or level of competency will get
something from it." Past members of Derby Magic Circle and
visiting magicians are always welcome at our meetings, but there is a
small fee of £10 payable on the night. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm
start. Derby Magic Circle, Breadsall Memorial Hall, Brookside Road,
Breadsall, Derby DE21 5LR (Map).

Tony Griffith’s
Practical-Entertaining-Commercial Lecture now booking: "The P.E.C. lecture is full of practical ,entertaining, commercial magic
that will fit into the average magician’s working repertoire. This is
not a finger flinging type of lecture, full of magic that is beyond the
ability of the average magician. Nor is it a dealer demonstration!
The P.E.C. lecture is full of magic that Tony Griffith has used in his
professional career over the last 25 years. There is something for
everyone, whether you perform close-up magic, stand-up magic or
children’s magic.
This is a lecture that contains material that the average magic club
member will use. In fact if he/she does not get at least three items
from it then Tony will be disappointed.
Tony is a Member of The Inner Magic Circle, has lectured at the Magic
Castle, Hollywood, five times and has appeared there over 100 times with
his close-up magic. In fact he has lectured worldwide (in over 100
cities) from the USA to Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe.
