The Magicians’ Podcast.
Richard Young writes: This week I speak to Troy, perhaps the coolest
magician in the UK who has enjoyed success with two TV series on E4 and
a Channel 4 television special. From the outside it all looks like a
dream career, however Troy talks openly and honestly in this interview
about the relentless comparison he gets with Dynamo and how he felt when
the Channel 4 television special he put his heart and soul into ran into
all sorts of problems beyond his control and was poorly received.

Life's
a Beach. Jay Fortune reviews Gary Jones' new book this week: "This book is full of brilliant routines. You know when someone has spent most of
their waking hours thinking, developing, tweaking and performing magic when you
see how they have created streamlined, powerful magic effects with a method so
devilishly simple, only a trained magical mind could reach such a clever method..."

Smoke and Mirrors Exhibition, London. From the organisers: Opening in April 2019,
our free exhibition ‘Smoke and Mirrors’ will be the first-ever to focus
on the relationship between magic and psychology. ‘Smoke and Mirrors’
will seek the truth about deception, ask how bias and suggestion affect
our senses and decisions, and consider what it is about the human
condition that means many of us believe in magic and the supernatural,
even in the face of logical explanations. Artefacts from the world of
magic will include those from Derren Brown, Tommy Cooper, Paul Daniels,
Debbie McGee and Harry Houdini. Explore spirit photography, magic props,
psychology experiments and more to see how magic works on – and in –
your mind. 11th April - 15th September 2019. Welcome Collection, 183

Free
Routine from Mark Leveridge Magic. Mark Leveridge's creative output
these days is mainly poured into the content provided to members of his
online magic club, E-Club Pro. As a result, there are hundreds of ideas
and effects available to members which nobody else gets to see. One of
the main sections of the Members' Only E-Club Pro web pages is called
the Vintage Vault, and in here there are about 100 routines
performed and explained on online video covering a very wide array of
magic effects. None of this material has appeared on video before; so
members have access to a lot of magic that is not available elsewhere.
To give you a taste of the type of content that is featured, Mark is
offering you the chance to watch one of the routines currently in the
Vintage Vault completely for free. It's an effect called
ESPeriment and is an easy to do idea using a set of ESP cards. To
watch and learn this effect

membership to E-Club Pro can be found at

Tim
'Triumphs' at the United Kingdom Escape Artists Annual Competition.
From the organisers: The Annual General Meeting of the United Kingdom
Escape Artists (UKEA) took place on Saturday, 16th March, in
Northampton, with a strong turnout of both professional and amateur
escape artists. The meeting comprised a number of lectures and
presentations and also saw the 4th annual Mick Hanzlik Award Competition
and the 2nd David De-Val Award taking place. This year, the award was
won by Tim Houlton from Hull. Tim came up with an unusual escape and
possibly the first of its kind anywhere in the world, combining his love
of motorcycles and escapology. The escape featured him first being
secured in a straitjacket, and then a pair of full-body motorcycle
leathers, with the straps from the straitjacket being inserted through
the arms of the leathers. A motorcycle helmet and full boots were also
worn. After around five minutes of wrestling (even throwing in some
comedy air guitar), Tim, much to our amazement, managed to escape
successfully! The Award is named after Houdini Historian and Master
Locksmith Mick Hanzlik and is presented for the 'Best Escape' of the day
and is voted for by all members.
The second award went to Chris Gower. He now becomes the second person
to win the prestigious David De-Val Award for his efforts during the
last 12 months in promoting the art form. Chris was the escapology
consultant for the primetime Halloween show on ITV 'Live & Deadly:
Drowned'. The show witnessed Ben Hamlin and Josey Essex attempt a
dangerous escape as the pair were handcuffed and chained, whilst
immersed in water, live on TV. The 90-minute one-off special showed Ben
and Joey training for 5 days, as they perfected the escape.
