Chris Stokes Lecture - The Order of The Magi, 27th August. Mike Sharples writes: The Order of The Magi is pleased to announce that on Tuesday the 27th August Chris Stokes will be presenting his "Ambitious" Lecture at the Irish World Heritage Centre at 7.30pm. Chris Stokes is one of the most sought-after and engaging magicians on the Midlands circuit. Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, Chris developed his passion for magic as a child, but only became a working pro 18 years ago when he unleashed his eye-popping walkaround and mentalism routines on the public at leading venues in and around the county.

In 2007 he launched 'Chris Stokes Ghost Tours', a jaw-dropping journey around some of the most ‘haunted’ hotels and mansions in the UK - and the only commercially run experience to use magic, illusion and storytelling to astound and terrify guests. His most popular venue, the infamous Leopard Hotel, in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, featured an abandoned 55-bedroomed Victorian hotel which rapidly became a magnet for TV crews and paranormal investigators from all over the world before being destroyed by fire in 2022. See: YouTube

In this lecture, Chris will chart his personal journey from newspaper journalist and frustrated actor to award-winning magical entertainer and share with you some of his signature effects - as well as his unique take on some of the most popular magical effects on the market. Visiting magicians are welcome to attend for a entry fee of £10.00 payable on the door. Please contact Mike Sharples prior to the evening 0774 8833666 for more details. 24.8.24

Lost in The Shuffle UK film premiere - The Magic Circle, London, 27th August. For almost as long as there have been cards, there have been card tricks. In the hands of a magician, a simple deck of cards takes on a life of its own and is elevated to an instrument of wonder and awe. Seen through the eyes of some of the world's best sleight of hand artists, Lost in the Shuffle is a loving look at how playing cards have become synonymous with magic and the mysteries hidden in their art.

Two-time world champion Shawn Farquhar takes us through six countries as he both tries to prove his theory that hidden in the art of every deck of cards are the clues to the conspiracy to kill a French king in 1498, while simultaneously creating a brand new routine, that tells the real story of Charles VIII's untimely demise. Workshopping different elements of the routine with four top magicians, the film pulls back the curtain on the creativity, ingenuity and psychological tricks the modern magician employs to make us all believe in the impossible... www.lostintheshuffle.film. Also See www.vimeo.com.

Lost in the Shuffle stars Shawn Farquhar, Michael Vincent, Juan Tamariz, Alexandra Duvivier and Richard Turner. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the producer. This event is free for members. Guests, both magical and non-magical can also attend. There will be a £20 charge, payable at the door.
