Number 380 - 6th October 2007

Guy Hollingworth will be presenting his one man show "The Expert at the Card Table" at the International Magic Convention in London on Friday 23rd November at 7.30pm. Previously only seen at a limited number of International Festivals, this is a wonderful chance to see the whole 75 minute show, performed by one of the UK's greatest card magicians. The show is framed around the book of the same title, written by SW Erdnase, and first published in 1902. Guy tells the story behind this classic textbook in this original play and demonstration of legerdemain, by delivering a captivating insight into both the world of conjuring and card cheating as described in the book, and the story of the lives and deaths that lay behind it. Aspects of the book, including false shuffling, false dealing and a myriad of other crooked gambling techniques are demonstrated, before your very eyes, with all the charm and finesse of a typical Hollingworth performance. Organisers of the Convention are thrilled to be able to offer this chance to see this magical theatrical performance, and have it as the first official event of the weekend. Highly recommended! The show will be followed by two lectures from Anthony Owen and Dynamo. (Note: The third previously scheduled lecture for the evening from Mr Daba will be moved to the Saturday). in-magic.co.uk are now advertising with MagicWeek. Matt Leatherbarrow had his first effect published in 2005 by JB Magic. While this was an incredible experience, and Mark Mason was very helpful in developing the effect (Spot It), Matt decided to give himself complete creative freedom by producing his own range of magic effects, and www.in-magic.co.uk was born. Matt writes: "I don’t have a regular venue or stage; I might need to perform at any given moment. That’s why my magic has to be as handy as my set of keys and make sense in any environment. In short, [in.magic] is about magic that is fashionable." Visit www.in-magic.co.uk today! 6.10.07
