Channel 5 have commissioned a series of
seven 30 minute shows from Objective Productions called Monkey Magic. Somewhere
between Trigger Happy TV and Jackass TV but with magic - starring Ali Cook, Pete McCahon, Jonathan Goodwin (photo) and Pete Firman (Pete
Firman responded
to a news item in MagicWeek Issue 89 - just a few weeks
ago). Anthony Owen is producing and
Andrew O'Connor is the series producer. Channel 5 plan to show the series in
prime time (the first magic series to go out on prime time television for
years). Also from Objective and nearing completion 50 Greatest Magic Tricks
for Channel 4 - a "Top Ten" type show but featuring magic! (I wonder if they'll
watch it in Motown?). It is expected to air in the next month or so... dates in
MagicWeek as soon as they are released. Objective Productions were featured in
an article in The Sunday Times on Sunday discussing the niche market that is
magic - and their productions including the Quick Trick Show, the up-coming
Fifty Greatest Magic Tricks and Derren Brown's series. 27.4.02 |

Members of The Young
Magicians Club attended a special event at The Magic Circle last
Saturday, April 20th. The Magic Management Master Class was organised and presented by Paul Andrews, James Freedman, Guy Hollingworth (photo),
Marc Paul, Anthony Owen and John Woolvett. Quite a line-up, and from what
MagicWeek hears an excellent day, which all the lecturers enjoyed as much as the
students. There is a full review from Young Magicians Club member Hugo Hadlow

Magician Jason Mawdsley will be arriving in
London this week from Johannesburg, South Africa and would like to make contact
with magicians over here. Jason spent last year performing in theme parks in
Taiwan, has performed in night clubs, and won the silver medal in the South African National Junior
Championships (stage) in 1996. He'd be really grateful for any introductions
magic work wise, and is also hoping to find a dealer in need of a magic
salesman in London. Please email Jason at:
wem@hixnet.co.za My first port of call Jason would be Davenports Magic Shop
located in the small mall at Charing Cross Underground Station, London W2 and
International Magic
Studio, 89 Clerkenwell Road, London EC1. Then contact
The Magic Circle,
also in London, and ask for membership details. The Magic Circle have around
1,500 members world-wide, meet weekly, and
present a guest lecturer or special evening every Monday night in their private
HQ. 27.4.02 |
