Number 282 - 19th November 2005
Something
Wicked This Way Comes... Again! Derren Brown goes on tour in 2006 with the show that
sold out across the country earlier this year. This is what we said then "Just as Cirque du Soleil reinvented the dying art of 'circus' in the 80's
Derren Brown has reinvented the dying art of the 'mind reader' in the 2000's -
the show was simply stunning... the whole production has been meticulously crafted from
start to finish. You will take great delight in its inventiveness and
originality... and the closing minutes will simply blow you away. Derren's
performance is superb, his easy manner and charm bewitching the audience
from the moment he walks on stage. Very theatrical, without ever being
over the top... Something Wicked will go down in magic
history as a defining moment in the evolution of the genre. Do try and see
this show; it boldly goes where no mortal 'mind reading' show has dreamt
of going before." See What's On for
dates. (All dates subject to change. Theatres may not yet be taking
advance bookings.)

Brown – The Heist. Following the success of Russian Roulette,
Séance and Messiah, master mind manipulator Derren Brown
returns this Christmas with The Heist, another one-off
television special produced by Objective Productions for Channel 4. "Under
the guise of a motivational seminar and a follow-up documentary, can
Derren Brown persuade any of his group of responsible, middle-management
businessmen and women to steal £100,000 in an armed robbery? In his most
ambitious and challenging special to date, Derren illustrates how little
it takes to cross into deviant behaviour and presents a master class in
persuasion." Transmission date to be announced. 19.11.05 |

Will
Gray is featured in
Magic Profile
this week: "I can’t remember exactly how he put it
but during a lecture at Leicester MC Ali Bongo caught my attention with
his belief that 'everything a magician does should be magical.' Why use a
lighter when a magician should be able to make fire appear and why should
he need to untie a rope? This one quote by a magical great has really
influenced the way I routine my acts." To read Will's profile

Nyman's Killer Elite Pro has just been released by Alakazam.co.uk.
Very strong first time around this all-new 'pro' version features a custom
designed high quality leather wallet, real poker chip and full colour
movie cards that have been specially produced on credit card stock. Here's
the effect: The performer introduces a small leather wallet and removes a
poker-chip and four 'movie' cards, each bearing the image of a well known
movie "killer." The spectator is asked to imagine that all four killers
are in a room, when all of a sudden gun shots are fired, leaving just one
man standing. The survivor is the owner of the poker chip. The spectator
is asked to choose the killer that he believes to be the owner of the
chip, which is then placed onto the card bearing the image of the chosen
killer and survivor. Amazingly, the performer proves that the spectator's
selection is the correct one! Clever stuff from Andy Nyman and one of
those routines that you'll have a lot of fun with. Pre-order from

The
Magic of Jesus. From Channel 4: "The Bible says that Jesus made water in to wine, fed
5,000 people, and said that faith could move mountains. Can magicians
Barry and Stuart do the same? In this 60-minute Christmas special the
stars of Dirty Tricks undertake their most challenging project to
date as biblical stories become a springboard for the duo to produce some
amazing tricks. The Magic of Jesus sees Barry and Stuart draw on
the miracles as the inspiration for some of their most highly original and
inventive magic yet. Is it possible for two 21st-century magicians to
‘reproduce’ some of these extraordinary events?" To be broadcast around
Christmas/New Year, dates to be confirmed. Objective Productions for
Channel 4. 19.11.05 |
