An Evening with Paul Daniels is reviewed by Nick Ralls this week: "Routines that many magicians perform as standard such as the chop cup, six card repeat, find the lady and changing card take on a new life in Paul's very capable hands. His electric chairs routine, which has become one of the hallmarks of the Paul Daniels act, never fails to be immensely entertaining and his solo levitation remains breathtaking. In common with other big stars of variety, in the audience you feel that Paul is performing just for you." To read the full review see Click Here. For current dates see What's On. 18.3.06

Derren Brown's new Trick of the Mind series starts on Sunday March 26th and he's on tour from Tuesday 21st. "There are 42 dates on this tour. What do you do to relax between shows? I tend to get bored and fidgety, wanting to get back on the road to do the next one. The buzz of a real audience, and knowing that you’re giving them a good show, make it hugely enjoyable. But I suspect this time I’ll be working on a book project." Derren talks about his work: Click Here. 18.3.06

Look out for Dynamo's special for Channel 4 in May Dynamo's Estate of Mind. This globetrotting magic man has just returned from a Motorola launch in Barcelona and the TED conference in California, where he spoke and performed alongside Matt Groening (creator of the Simpsons) and Al Gore. On Thursday he made a swift appearance on Richard and Judy - cramming in lots of magic - and they loved him. 18.3.06

Magicians from the Hull Magicians' Circle competed in their annual stage competition at Hessle Town Hall last Friday. An enthusiastic audience were entertained by four competitors who displayed a variety of magic tricks. The winner, Peter Smales of Cottingham, won the coveted Connnolly Shield and featured his skating card trick. Peter explained that with the current popularity of ice skating in mind, he'd created a trick that involved skating on a carpet with specially designed "carpet skates" enabling him to simulate ice skating! Peter is well known to local schoolchildren as a result of his educational maths and science magic shows and workshops. The club is currently enjoying its best ever period with over seventy members in its senior section and a flourishing junior section. The shield was presented by Professor Eddie Dawes president of Hull Magicians' Circle who complemented all the competitors who participated. Competing: Malcolm Bromwich & Roxanne, Danny Hargraves, Gordon Stow and Peter Smales. Paul Kitchen compared and Walt Lees performed as guest magician in the second half. 18.3.06

The Order of the Magi, Manchester, found out that "there's snow business like show business" when they entered a float in the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Manchester city centre on Sunday 12th March. "A hardy group of society supporters braved the snowy north to walk the two and a half mile route handing out flyers with an optical illusion on to promote the society. The Magi celebrate their centenary in 2009 and this was just part of the promotional activities lined up to make public awareness of this long standing organisation for magicians in the area. Event coordinator Mike Sharples (immediate Past President) said 'I think we may be the first magic society to enter a float in a procession of this size and our efforts were well received by young and old alike.'" 18.3.06
