Darwin
Ortiz will both lecture and perform at this year's International Magic
Convention (London, November 23rd-25th). A highly acclaimed card and
gambling expert, Darwin's appearance will mark his first UK Convention
performance since the publishing of his latest book "Designing Miracles"
which has received excellent reviews. A marvellous chance to see Darwin
perform under perfect conditions in the Shaw Theatre, which with its raked
seating offers a perfect view for all. As announced last week, Al
Schneider will be performing at the Convention, but he's also added an
extra days magic workshop. The All Day Seminar will take place on the
Friday, finishing in time for the evening lectures that normally form the
start of the Convention. Material covered in the workshop will not be
duplicated in Al's lecture, during the weekend. Attendees will receive
individual attention and should bring 2 duplicate decks of playing cards,
a large soft handkerchief or napkin, two half dollar sized silver coins
and a half dollar sized copper coin. Tickets are obviously very limited
for this event and anyone wishing to attend should contact Martin at
International Magic. The cost of the days workshop is only £25 and
includes a CD that contains a selection of Al's standard routines.

All3Media
announces acquisition of Objective Productions. Objective Productions,
the television production company founded just over ten years ago by
Andrew O’Connor and Michael Vine has been sold to All3Media in a deal
thought to be worth more than £40 million. Objective, best known to magicians for the
hugely
successful Derren Brown TV shows and many other magic related productions,
said the move would be an opportunity to "grow the business and expand our
output." Based in London and Manchester, Objective has enjoyed equal
success with their non-magic productions including shows such as the
highly original comedy
Peep Show and current hits Star Stories and The Real Hustle.
All3Media's executive Steve Morrison said: "Objective is the UK's leading
producer of magic and comedy and they excel in their style of
entertainment, one of the most sought after genres in broadcasters'
schedules. Their format hits are much in demand in international markets
and their presence in the All3Media Group will help us and them grow
further." Michael Vine and Andrew O'Connor will remain with the
company for the next five years. Now that's magic.

Paul
Daniels opens Wigan store. "No, it's not an illusion – Paul Daniels
has opened a shop in Wigan town centre! The world-famous conjuror teamed
up with his son - also called Paul - to launch an emporium stocked with
fancy dress items, wigs and jokes and soon also to be packed out with
magic tricks. Shoppers could be forgiven for doing a double-take in Mesnes
Street this week as the legendary entertainer helped kit out the interior
and scaled a ladder to see how best to make the old Ron Leigh electricals
signs vanish..." To read the full story by Charles Graham in Wigan

Superstar
Sooty is Honorary Mayor of Blackpool. Izzy Wizzy... Sooty will be
returning to his show business roots at North Pier, Blackpool this Summer.
To celebrate this historic occasion Sooty was honoured with a very special
Honorary Mayoral Ceremony at Blackpool’s Town Hall where The Right
Honourable Worshipful Mayor Robert Wynne officially made Sooty the resorts
Ambassador of Family Fun and officially bestowed upon Sooty his own
Mayoral Chain, velvet cloak, rights of office and Mayoral Duties. A
heritage blue plaque at the North Pier entrance proudly marks the spot
where Sooty was born and now the little yellow bear will continue to
entertain generations of children with his mischievous antics. A star of
stage and screen for decades, Sooty was originally developed by Harry
Corbett. The nephew of fish and chip shop chain owner Harry Ramsden, he
bought the puppet for seven shillings and sixpence as a present for his
son Matthew, from a stall on North Pier in 1948. Sooty will be strutting
his stuff with Mike Newman in The Izzy Wizzy Holiday Show on North
Pier every Saturday afternoon until September 1st.

lecture. Kennedy emails: "After the kind and positive reception I got
from my first real lecture at Ipswich Magical Society last week I am keen
to offer my lecture Thoughts Across to other magic clubs around the UK. In
the lecture I teach a number of routines, some that I have released and
many that I have not, due to the fact that I'm still using them in my
corporate shows. Including some new approaches to fork bending where the
bending takes place in the audience, as well as some new bends that happen
in my hands. Along with fork bending I perform some card mentalism and a
good amount where the spectators read each other's minds, under all kinds
of conditions." For more information contact Kennedy:
