The Mind Lord and The Time Lord. Derren Brown - Mind Reader: An Evening of Wonders opened at the Garrick Theatre in London's West End last week for a limited run. This is Derren's third all-new one-man show. The pace is rapid, the mind reading stunning, the connection with his audience total, the level of playfulness perfect, and the overall ease of presentation impressive... For just over two hours (two halves with a Häagen-Dazs in the middle) Derren delighted the audience, which on this particular night was littered with theatre critics, and left the stage to a standing ovation. A brilliant performance. David Tennant (Dr Who) is Derren's guest on Trick or Treat on Friday 23rd May. The first printing of Geoffrey Durham’s book Professional Secrets: A Life in Magic sold out in ten weeks and the second impression, with a few corrections, is now available. Since the book was published, Geoffrey has had a lot of enquiries about his new design for the Himber Ring (featured in the book). Good news! David Shakarian, the craftsman who made the originals, has agreed to manufacture a limited edition of six of these new Himber Rings this Autumn. Geoffrey can’t be sure of the exact date of their release and still doesn’t know the final price (being gold, they won’t be cheap). But now people with a genuine interest in Geoffrey’s routine will be able to perform it exactly as it is described it in the book. Anyone who wants to be kept informed can email Geoffrey at geoffrey@geoffreydurham.com. 10.5.08

Close-up: In Depth. Next Saturday, May 17th. "I’ve been lecturing and performing to magicians for nearly thirty years now and I’ve always found some of the most productive stuff came in the informal sessions" says Chris Power, "What I’m trying to do here is bottle that concept." In terms of numbers this will be a strictly limited affair. "I don’t want to have a large group of people for this, it’s about teaching and sharing the stuff that I do ‘in depth’, I can only achieve that with a small group in an intimate setting. To achieve this I’ve chosen a lovely old London pub with a great room that’s just right." Anyone who wants to really learn about misdirection, card and coin sleight of hand or just get the inside deal on Chris’s justly famous ‘Coins through Silk’ handling, won’t be disappointed. Tickets for the event are £75.00 and include lunch. For more information email: mayindepth@googlemail.com. 10.5.08

Granted access to the personal notebooks, scrapbooks, and memorabilia of Cardini, John Fisher has crafted not only a revelatory biography but also a fine piece of magical literature." Wayne Dobson has just a few copies remaining. £85.00 + p&p www.waynedobson.co.uk. 10.5.08

Tony Eng. Very sad to report the death of Canada's Tony Eng. Tony used to run Tony's Trick & Joke Shop with his family in Victoria and Keiko and I used to pop in to pick up a copy of MAGIC or Genii during two seasons of cruising in Alaska. A lovely guy, with a great sense of fun, who always made visiting magicians so welcome. "Tony Eng lived a magical life" Click Here. 10.5.08
