British
Ring Convention, 2013. Geoffrey Newton writes: Things are now really moving
for the IBM British Ring Convention to be held from Wednesday 4th – Sunday 8th
September in Buxton Derbyshire. It all starts at 12 noon with the opening of the
registration desk and dealers hall. Most events will appear either at the Opera
House (photo) or the adjacent Pavilion Gardens. After the official opening on
the Wednesday there is the traditional welcoming short show to herald a few days
of great magic. The first lecture is from Tim Wright from the USA. There will be
a wide variety of lecturers including the Jeffery Atkins Memorial lecture, this
year to be presented by Fergus Roy on the Davenport Story. Also, a tribute to

The
Revenge of Sherlock Holmes! A Music Hall Musical of Elementary Magnificence:
Morphic Graffiti is thrilled to announce that they will present The Revenge of
Sherlock Holmes! at the world famous Hoxton Hall in April/May 2013. Based on the
novels of Conan Doyle, and written by legendary composer and lyricist Leslie
Bricusse, this unique production will pay a Music Hall homage to the Victorian
era’s greatest living detective, as Sherlock Holmes finds himself embroiled in
an all-new mystery that will push even him to breaking point! Audiences will
find themselves stepping back in time as this historic venue is brought back to
its former life. The Revenge of Sherlock Holmes! will feature eight major magic
sequences created by Thomas Moore, to authentically recreate classic Victorian
miracles, with puppets by Billie Achilleos, making this “More Victoriana than

final of The Young Magician of The Year competition takes place this Sunday
at The Magic Circle Headquarters in London. Six competitors will compete for
coveted Derrick Speight Trophy. They are: Nicholas Lee, James Longcake, Sonny
Pennington, Elizabeth Rogan, Sebastian Walton and Matthew Wollons. The
biannual competition, which started in 1961 has a long list of winners that
went on to achieve notable careers in the art of magic including Johnny Hart,
Russ Stevens, Andrew O'Connor, Richard Cadell and Dominic Wood. The final takes

Brown Lecture - The London Society of Magicians. The London Society of
Magicians are delighted to host a lecture by James Brown on Tuesday 28th May at
7pm. James Brown was awarded The Magic Circle Close-up Magician of the Year
title in 2006, and came second in the 2006 International Magic Convention
Close-Up Competition. James is well known and respected for his sleight of hand,
pickpocket and misdirectional skills. His lecture is aimed at the performing
magician and those who wish to perform close-up magic more often. Crammed with

and Rachel Colombini will be presenting their Farewell lecture for the Derby
Magic Circle on Wednesday, 24th April at Breadsall Village Hall, Derby. Paul

many DVDs and created many magical effects used by magicians all over the world.
He also lectures on magic worldwide and was nominated by the Academy of Magical
Arts twice 'Lecturer of the Year'. Rachel is an accomplished full time performer

the Magic circuit. The lecture is bound to be entertaining as Aldo was the only
magician, in the history of the Magic Castle, to be nominated in all six

During the Christmas period the Merlin Magical
Society held their annual Close-Up evening. Over 50 local people supported the
event which raised £500 for Jessie's Fund, a charity which helps children with
serious illness or complex needs to communicate through music. Victoria Wood is

new stage rock opera production in Greece. The famous Greek Rock Opera 'Demons', by Nikos
Karvela, with lyrics by Stavros Sideras, is a breath-taking piece of theatre,
and very unique. Anna Vissi stars in the title role directed by Yannis Kaklea.

Perth Magic Circle

Rachel will present their "Farewell Lecture" at an extra meeting of the club on

and following Rachel's recent open heart surgery, they have decided that it is
