Number 738 - 16th August 2014
Tom
Mullica will be premiering his new stage act at The International Magic
Convention in London on November 15th! Noel Britten, Talent Coordinator for
the Festival and Convention writes: "We are thrilled to announce that Tom will
not only be talking about his world famous Tom Foolery Bar on the Friday, during
the 'Bar and Close Up Magic Day' of our Festival of Magic, and presenting parts
of his Red Skelton Tribute Show on the Saturday evening as part of our Bar Magic
Event, but that he will be premiering his totally new stage act as a start to
his interview on the Saturday afternoon of the Convention. Tom has continually
re-invented himself from his first purpose built Magic Bar venue, through to his
FISM award-winning stage act which featured at The Crazy Horse in Paris for many
years, to his Tribute to Red Skelton Show which has been regularly extended
through several seasons in leading venues in the USA. Each of these creations
has been heralded as the best of their kind, and we are elated that the premiere
of his new stage act which includes all his usual brilliant blending of
pantomime, comedy and magic, is to happen at the Convention.
Tom's various appearances during the Festival and
Convention are a chance, unrivalled in the UK until now, to see and hear Tom
talk about how he developed each one of these performances, his attention to
detail, inspirations and other factors that make him one of the most in-demand
of speciality acts in the world. To me personally, the only two Comedy Magicians
who have truly funny bones are Tom and David Williamson and those who were at
Tom's lecture at his only previous Convention performance with us in 1993 will
know what I mean. Thousands of performances and a natural gift for comedy
combine for an unforgettable experience. Miss this at your peril!" Remind
yourselves of the brilliance of Tom Mullica,

Steve
Valentine's DVD set 'Cloth' is reviewed by Quentin Reynolds this
week: "My interest in the venerable Card Through Handkerchief was piqued
when I read Billy McComb’s Five Card Selection routine in one of the
Ireland Year Books. It wasn’t known as the Multiple Card Selection back
then. Billy’s routine climaxed with the Card Thru Hanky.... Steve has
done all that work for you, which is literally a huge amount of research
and I’d say, equal to a university semester..."

The
Dundalk Day of Magic, Sunday 3rd May 2015. "The Irish Convention will adopt a new
format next year when for one year only it becomes the Dundalk Day of
Magic on Sunday 3rd May 2015.
Organised by the Irish Ring 85 of the International Brotherhood of
Magicians the venue will be the stunning
Carrickdale Hotel
and Spa who are now accepting overnight bookings.
A full programme of lectures, dealers, evening meal and cabaret show is
promised, along with legendary Irish hospitality!
Organisers are keen at this time to hear from anyone keen to lecture,
deal or perform at the convention (or all three!). Interest from
overseas is particularly welcome, although budget constraints would
favour those willing to include the convention as part of an Irish

Gore has added two more dates to his UK lecture tour. "Steve Gore presents his lecture which has received excellent reviews at
the Magic Castle, the IBM British Ring Convention, the Blackpool
Magicians' Club and at around twenty magic societies. It includes lots of
