Masterclasses
added to South Tyneside International Magic Festival line-up.
The South Tyneside International Magic Festival Convention, which
returns for its 13th year from Friday March 11th, will feature three days of
lectures, workshops and shows designed exclusively for professional performers
and the most ardent magic fans. The trio of
masterclasses are now being added to the already bumper line-up, offering
attendees the chance to get practical guidance from three leading lights in the
modern business.
This includes sessions led by The Magic Circle’s Close-Up Magician of the Year
2015, Dr Will Houstoun; master magician Michael Vincent, who has also won that
very
same title three times, and the ‘mind reader guy’, Kennedy.
Michael’s masterclass will focus on sleight of hand card and coin magic, while
Will’s will outline the technique, performance and theory behind several of his
favourite creations, with time to discuss additional subjects of the
participants’ choosing.
Mentalist Kennedy will be sharing some of his secrets and offering guidance
on how active empathy, body language and even reading can help hone a
performer’s mind reading skills.
All three masterclasses will take place simultaneously at the end of the
standard STIMF programme on Sunday March 13th and will be open to convention
delegates and non-delegates alike.
Places at the masterclasses, which cost an additional £60 each, must be booked
separately by calling 0191 4247281.

Qualter: "Noel Qualter has won the prize for originality for the last 3 years in a row at
The Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year Competition. He is a working
professional, a magic consultant, and has also had a close call with some big time
television success. This is perhaps the most gut wrenching story on the podcast
to date, as Noel explains how he was cut from a major prime time TV magic show
not once, but twice." Listen

The
Mark Leveridge February Podcast. Mark writes: Got half an hour to
spare? Well I'd like to invite you to sit in on my latest Podcast which,
amongst other things, this month covers topics such as: do you adapt
your performing style depending on who your audience happens to be? I
discuss how fortunate we are as magicians to be able to involve
spectators in our acts and what benefits it brings. I look at why you
may sometimes be reluctant to add new routines to your working
repertoire. I reveal what my favourite type of show is and why I simply
love it when I get such a booking. And I discuss how inhibiting it can
be when you are required to work tables in a really quiet environment!
These plus one or two other topics will hopefully provide you with an
interesting 30 minute listen, and it's totally free to access either
from
www.markleveridge.co.uk/podcast.php or from
markleveridge.podbean.com. I look forward to your company and while
you're there, why not take a browse through the other Podcasts from
previous months?".

Three
new routines from DTrik. DTrik is proud to present Paul’s Balls - The
Tossed Out Lottery Book Test: Created by one of the UK’s busiest working
magicians, Paul’s Balls is a great trick that can be used anytime in your act.
Not just for stage, you can also use this effect for close-up and walk-around
too. If you wanted to do a lottery prediction type effect, but were unable to
buy or justify spending heaps of money on a 'device', then you can’t go wrong
with Paul’s Balls. This effect as everything; drama, magic, mind reading and
audience participation. The presentation is entirely hands off! Comes complete
with pocket sized lottery book, routine, gags and performance rights. "I love
this trick, it has gone straight in my working act! It's so easy to do"
Etienne Pradier. "I was lucky to get this before it came out and I used it to
great effect over all my Christmas Gigs, the reactions were great!" Lee
Hathaway. "This is a real workers' effect that can be put into any act as an
opener, filler or closer!" Magic Singh. See

‘Das
Spiel: Are You Part of the Game?’ - London. "The Game has found you. As you read this
you are becoming part of it. You are part of The Game. Das Spiel is a
psychological immersive theatre show, a mindreading experience blurring the
lines between performance and reality. Imagine being unsure if someone else has
planned your greatest moments. You discover more only by playing. This Game is
different. As you play, it becomes larger than you. It reaches into your past
and creates the present. It makes you comfortably uncomfortable. The players are
different every night and therefore The Game is different every night. Play The
Game and let The Game play you." Written and performed by Philipp Oberlohr,
theatre-maker, performer and illusionist. "Intelligent, artistic, very funny" ★★★★★ Everything Theatre.
"This feels personal." ★★★★★ Theatre Fullstop.
