Andy
Nyman: Bulletproof. Andy Nyman's Bulletproof is nearing
publication. Featuring 36 reputation-making practical, commercial,
routines Bulletproof also includes a dozen essays, all of Andy's
published lecture notes, profiles and interviews. The covers house a
bonus audio CD interview on mentalism and a DVD entitled 'A Dream Come
True'. The preface is by David Berglas, and the foreword by Derren Brown.
Bulletproof is a limited edition of just 750 copies, each signed
by Andy Nyman and numbered. Printed on top-quality satin-finish paper,
each copy is hardbound in luxurious leather with a full-colour
dustjacket. What I love about Andy is that he doesn't
just think "out of the box" - he thinks out of the box that the first
box was in. While you're trying to work that one out why not pre-order
this title now, and enjoy a $50.00 saving, before they all disappear:

The
Expert at the Card Table, Written and performed by Guy Hollingworth,
April 2nd - 5th, Menier Chocolate Factory, London SE1. After sold-out
success at the Edinburgh Festival in 2008, and a series of international
performances and a recent sell-out run at the infamous Magic Castle in
L.A., The Expert at the Card Table will perform at the Chocolate
Factory on April 2nd – 5th for an exclusive run. Guy Hollingworth is an
acknowledged expert of sleight of hand and card technique. In this one
man show, he performs dazzling exhibitions of card chicanery alongside a
compelling story of trickery, deceit and death. Based on a book of the
same name, The Expert at the Card Table tells the story of two
boys whose innocent love of card tricks develops in adulthood into a
dangerous game of hustles and street cons that lead to trickery,
deception and death. Published anonymously in 1902, the book describes
in great detail, original and brilliant methods for conjuring effects,
whilst at the same time revealing the author’s true intent - a full
exposé of the underground techniques used by hustlers, card cheats and
con artists. The Expert at the Card Table. Written and performed
by Guy Hollingworth. Directed by Neil Patrick Harris. Visit

Bob
Hayden goes behind the scenes to introduce some of the performers
that will be appearing at this year's IBM British Ring Convention in
Southport in September. In 1995 David met Dania (photo) on a circus
tour. Dania was performing her award winning hula hoop act and David was
working as a singing ringmaster. Both came from a show business
background, Dania being the daughter of Russian circus legend Rustan
Kaseeva and David the son of a concert pianist Jerry Robert Mass.
Training as a gymnast since the age of six Dania went on to acrobatics
and dance. With these talents she created a hula hoop act and made her
professional debut aged fourteen, in a touring production of the Moscow
State Circus. She soon established an international reputation with the
act not only for her masterly technique but her vibrant stage
personality. David’s first circus act, at the age of eight, was juggling
on a low wire. He then trained in acrobatics, dance and theatre and
found he had a talent for singing. Additionally, he successfully studied
magic; another strength that over the years has made a considerable
contribution to his success in the world of entertainment...

The Mentalist,
Thursdays on Five. "Patrick Jane
is a former celebrity psychic now working as a consultant with the
California Bureau of Investigation. He is called in to help the
investigation of a double murder that is linked to a notorious serial
killer. Patrick has his own theory about the case - but can he convince
his colleagues to listen to him?" Catch episode 1 if you missed it
last week, when it is repeated at 7pm this Sunday on Five USA. The
Mentalist was watched by 3.6 million viewers on its opening night
(Thursday 26th March) - that's the highest audience figure for a US
drama debut on Five ever; quite an achievement. The first episode in
this new crime series didn't really do it for me (I was expecting Alan
Partridge) - some of the twists being glaringly obvious, but others
worked. I think it will grow, and prove to be good for real-life
magicians. See TV Magic
for listings (DT). 28.3.09 |
